Having completed all preparations for the World Championship in the Netherlands, Alp began racing with great motivation by losing him 3-4 pounds after a tight training schedule.
He finished the first two days of the race in the 60th place in the general category. On the third day there was no race due to adverse weather conditions. Even if he was not satisfied at all with his scores on the fourth day, Alp learned from his mistakes and his urge to compete was sharpened. The greatest experience for Alp was to drop down to the Silver Group. He managed to motivate himself until the end with a professional approach in this race that did not meet his expectations and go as planned, and ultimately, he finished the Silver Group in the 5th place.
In the U19 European Championship that took place in Poland in July 2017, Alp once again got the chance to meet with significant competitors from different countries.
The weather’s turning bad, multiple showers followed by the flies and abondoned first race actually signaled how this race would go. U19 European Championship passed with long waits, frequent go-backs and severe weather conditions for both Alp and his competitors. In this 6-day race for which our sailor got prepared with his trainer Saruhan Çınay, Alp had an unrelenting struggle especially with his Greek, Italian, Dutch and Irish competitors. On the fourth day of the race, which was the first day of the Gold Group, he faced with the inevitable surprises of sailing.
He was late for the race, and then he had to compete cautiously because he had dropped his corrective sunglasses in the sea. He came in the 29th place in this race. He finished the 2nd race in the 19th place after his trainer Saruhan Çınay brought him another pair of corrective sunglasses and rose to the 38th place in the general category. Alp did not give up on the competition, and came in the 15th place against the strong wind and succeeded a serious rise in the ranking and completed the Laser Radial U19 European Championship in the 25th place.
Victoriously climbing up the ladders of being an Olympic athlete, our young sailor Alp Baltalı worked hard and underwent an efficient training and preparation period following Hyeres Europa Cup.
Alp became champion in the first two races on the first day of this race that has a significant place in the traditional race calendar of the Federation. However, his advantage was diminished due to further weakening wind in the third race. Nevertheless, as he became a master in coping with the tough conditions, he completed the last race in the third place, which was a substantial success. Even if the first day went very well, the following days were dominated by unstable wind conditions. Despite adverse weather conditions, he finished the race in the 2nd place.
In the second race, he took back the championship with a successful strategy.
On the third day, Alp comfortably competed in three races and did not lose championship to anyone, and then started the fourth day with a significant score advantage. The pressure on him diminished slowly and he took firm steps towards championship.
Alp managed to outlive challenging competitions he had with his competitors at the starting line, and then took the podium with championship in both youth and general category. This made his club, his trainers and team members enjoy great pride.
